Painting Cow jewelry is made of high quality top grain vegetable tanned leather. A master feather was carved and tooled in leather by Paul then a plate was made of the carving in order to reproduce exact copies in leather using a hydraulic press. Once the impression is made it is cut out and worked by hand; the edges are thinned to a “feather” edge with a skiving knife then the fluffs and splits are cut-in with an X-acto knife. They are painted with acrylic paints to represent the real feather. Some of the feathers are painted using light interference colors in order to duplicate the changing iridescence often found in real feathers. Once the paint is dry, the feather is shaped and the appropriate finding is attached. I use only quality findings: 14K Gold-filled or Sterling Silver ear wings, Myron Toback solid nickel silver pin backs and genuine one-piece constructed French barrette clips.
Caution: If you use rubbing alcohol to sterilize the earring wires, DO NOT get any on the painted feather as rubbing alcohol removes acrylic paint.
